This book has 2 great characters. I like Robert and Claire a lot. They are a married couple who have suffered a great loss and fallen out with each other.
The main conflict was a typical "women are from Venus and men are from Mars" misunderstanding. Robert and Claire got married and were passionately in love but Robert was a solider and often away from home. After a traumatic experience Claire was upset and told Robert to go away, that she never wanted to see him again. So what did Robert do? He went away.
This short story starts when Claire decided that she wanted her husband back. She wanted to apologize before it was too late because Robert was on the continent fighting against Napolean. She went to the battlefield to find Robert and they travelled back to England together and tried to "fix the marriage".
I think the book has a really great couple. They loved each other, that was evident. They were both hurt and harbored their own pains. Their biggest problem was a misunderstanding, which probably did not warrant a full-length book. I find that to be a pity because I would love to read more about a great couple like Robert and Claire. The plots could have been MUCH better. The book is WAAAYYY too short to properly explore the emotions.
Robert and Claire remind me of Mac and Isabella from [b: Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage|7070067|Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage (MacKenzies & McBrides, #2)|Jennifer Ashley|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1322336962s/7070067.jpg|7323377]. I wish the book was longer and the feelings more deeply explored. This book obviously is the first book of a series with all the other "Highland Knights" coming up as heros in future books. I look forward to all the stories. I just wish Robert and Claire got more page space.
