The Thunder Lord: The de Shera Brotherhood Book One (Lords of Thunder: The de Shera Brotherhood 1) - Kathryn Le Veque Am I the only one who skim-read this book?
I like the gentle tone this writer employs in her stories. But her stories are often too "simple" for me. People say most convenient things to keep the story going.
I usually read her books as if I was reading Lancelot and Guinevere. People "fall in love" out of nowhere and are all very level-headed about everything. You hurt me? No problems. Apologize and my princess heart will forgive you in 2 minutes. And my wounded pride, you know what, is restored.
70% of the story is about men, their wars and ambition. There is little romance other than the wedding night and pregnancy. How romantic. It must be true love.
I know I sound very cynical. As I said, I approach her stories the same way I would Lancelot's knightly glory. I do not expect to establish a personal connection to the characters. If it flows, which they usually do in this writer's stories, it's a 3 stars rating, never more.
